description: "Dominica Social Security contribution calculations and remittance reference for 2026. Covers employee and employer rates with and without redundancy coverage, the monthly earnings ceiling, capped examples, self-employed contributions and payment dates. Use for Dominica DSS, employer insurance contributions, redundancy contribution classification or self-employed social security. The dated 2026 notice and contribution schedule take precedence over older numerical examples in the FAQ. Coverage status, earnings classification and reciprocal-agreement exemptions need individual verification. Benefit calculations, voluntary contribution eligibility and partial-period payroll mechanics remain outside this draft. Monetary examples use Eastern Caribbean dollars."

# Dominica social-security contributions: 2026

## Scope and dated evidence

Source-cited draft for insured employment and self-employment. DSS's [2026 change notice](https://dss.dm/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Changes-to-Contributions-provisions-2026.png) applies from 1 January 2026 and cites SROs 4, 7 and 8 of 2012. The notice was visually inspected; the underlying SROs have not been independently checked for this batch.

## Employee and employer rates

| Category | Employee | Employer | Combined |
|---|---:|---:|---:|
| With redundancy | 6.75% | 8% | 14.75% |
| Without redundancy | 6.75% | 7.75% | 14.5% |

Source: [DSS contribution schedule, January 2026 row](https://dss.dm/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Table-of-EE-ER-Contribution-Rates-2012-2031.pdf). Do not apply the FAQ's historical 2024 combined rate to 2026 payroll.

DSS identifies EC$7,000 as the monthly insurable earnings ceiling. Its earnings definition includes salary, overtime, commissions, bonuses, service charges and holiday pay. Redundancy classification is statutory; examples of excluded categories include government employees and managers with actual hiring/firing authority. A job title alone is insufficient. [DSS FAQ](https://dss.dm/faq/).

## Monthly calculation examples

After establishing earnings and coverage, cap the monthly base at EC$7,000, then calculate each share separately:

| Established monthly earnings | Employee | Employer with redundancy | Total |
|---|---:|---:|---:|
| 4,000 | 270 | 320 | 590 |
| 9,000, capped at 7,000 | 472.50 | 560 | 1,032.50 |

At the same EC$7,000 base without redundancy, employer contributions are EC$542.50 and combined contributions EC$1,015. These examples do not calculate wage tax or take-home pay.

For multiple employers, DSS says each deducts on its own payments up to the monthly ceiling; the employee can obtain a refund of employee contributions above the combined ceiling. Employee contributions are due by the 14th after the month, shifted to the next working day if that date is a weekend or public holiday. [DSS FAQ](https://dss.dm/faq/).

## Self-employed contributors

The 2026 notice sets the rate at 13.75%. DSS bases contributions on the preceding year's self-employment earnings, capped at EC$84,000, and requires annual reassessment by 31 January. Payments are quarterly, due within 14 days after quarter-end, with monthly payment permitted. [DSS self-employed payment guidance](https://dss.dm/contributors/definition-se/pmt-contrib-se/).

For established prior-year earnings of EC$60,000, annual contributions are EC$8,250; at the ceiling they are EC$11,550. Obtain the assessed payment schedule rather than assuming even quarterly amounts in a partial year.

## Self-check and exclusions

Retain the coverage and redundancy classification, earnings reconciliation, ceiling calculation and payment receipt. Confirm age transitions, reciprocal-agreement exemptions, irregular pay and partial periods separately. Voluntary-contributor rates and benefit entitlements are not a substitute for a coverage decision. General research reference; independent review remains pending.
