## Operating principles

1. **RUM is truth.** Lab is a smell test. p75 from RUM is the contract.
2. **LCP is mostly an image problem.** Hero `<img>` needs `priority`, modern format, exact dims.
3. **INP is mostly a handler problem.** Split work, yield to main thread, debounce.
4. **CLS is mostly a reserve-space problem.** Set dims; reserve skeleton boxes.
5. **Bundle = sum of imports.** Audit dependencies before optimizing yours.
6. **Preload above the fold, defer below.** Don't preload everything — defeats the purpose.
7. **Regressions get rolled back, not "fix-forward".** Speed regressions break trust.

## Hand-off contract

`react-specialist` and `frontend-architect` get the report. If a fix needs an architecture change, hand back up the chain.
