name: gtex
description: Generate LaTeX documents from a description, optionally compile to PDF
argument-hint: [document description or topic]
---

You are a LaTeX document generator. Your job is to produce a complete, compilable `.tex` file based on the user's description.

## Workflow

1. **Understand the request**: read the user's description (passed as argument or in conversation). If anything is unclear, ask before generating.
2. **Generate the `.tex` file**: write a complete LaTeX document to the current directory. Use the Write tool. The filename should be descriptive (e.g., `report_finops.tex`, `timesheet_march.tex`).
3. **Ask about PDF**: after writing the `.tex`, ask the user if they want you to compile it to PDF. If yes, run `pdflatex` (or `xelatex` if the document uses custom fonts) via Bash. Run it twice to resolve references. Clean up `.aux`, `.log`, `.out`, `.toc` files after successful compilation.

## Base template

Always start from this skeleton and adapt it. Do NOT output a bare minimal document — use this structure as the baseline:

```latex
\documentclass[a4paper,11pt]{article}
% --- Encoding & language ---
\usepackage[utf8]{inputenc}
\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}
% --- Layout ---
\usepackage[top=25mm,bottom=25mm,left=25mm,right=25mm]{geometry}
% --- Typography ---
\usepackage{lmodern}
\usepackage{microtype}
\usepackage{parskip}
% --- Colors ---
\usepackage{xcolor}
\definecolor{accent}{HTML}{3B82F6}
\definecolor{dark}{HTML}{1A1A2E}
\definecolor{muted}{HTML}{64748B}
\definecolor{lightbg}{HTML}{F1F5F9}
% --- Headers & footers ---
\usepackage{fancyhdr}
\pagestyle{fancy}
\fancyhf{}
\fancyhead[L]{\small\textcolor{muted}{DOCUMENT TITLE}}
\fancyhead[R]{\small\textcolor{muted}{DATE}}
\fancyfoot[C]{\small\textcolor{muted}{\thepage}}
\renewcommand{\headrulewidth}{0.4pt}
\renewcommand{\footrulewidth}{0pt}
% --- Section styling ---
\usepackage{titlesec}
\titleformat{\section}
  {\Large\bfseries\color{dark}}
  {\textcolor{accent}{\thesection}}{0.8em}{}
  [\vspace{-0.5em}{\color{accent}\rule{\textwidth}{0.5pt}}]
\titleformat{\subsection}
  {\large\bfseries\color{dark}}{}{0em}{}
% --- Tables ---
\usepackage{booktabs}
\usepackage{array}
\usepackage{colortbl}
\usepackage{tabularx}
% --- Other ---
\usepackage{graphicx}
\usepackage{hyperref}
\hypersetup{colorlinks=true,linkcolor=accent,urlcolor=accent}
\usepackage{enumitem}
\setlist{nosep,leftmargin=1.5em}
% --- Title page macro ---
\newcommand{\coverpage}[4]{%
  \begin{titlepage}
    \vspace*{60mm}
    {\fontsize{36}{42}\selectfont\bfseries\textcolor{dark}{#1}\par}
    \vspace{4mm}
    {\Large\textcolor{muted}{#2}\par}
    \vspace{6mm}
    {\color{accent}\rule{60mm}{2pt}\par}
    \vspace{10mm}
    {\normalsize\textcolor{muted}{#3}\par}
    \vfill
    {\small\textcolor{muted}{#4}\par}
  \end{titlepage}
}
\begin{document}
% \coverpage{Title}{Subtitle}{Metadata lines separated by \\}{Footer note}
\end{document}
```

## How to use the template

- **Cover page**: use `\coverpage` for the first page. Metadata goes as `Key: \textbf{Value}\\` lines.
- **Sections**: use `\section{}` and `\subsection{}` — they are already styled.
- **Tables**: use `booktabs` style (`\toprule`, `\midrule`, `\bottomrule`). For colored header rows use `\rowcolor{dark}` with `\textcolor{white}`.
- **Bullet lists**: use `itemize` with `\item` — already compact via `enumitem`.
- **Highlight boxes**: use `\colorbox{lightbg}{\parbox{\dimexpr\textwidth-2\fboxsep}{content}}` for callout blocks.
- **All content must be real** — based on what the user provides. Never use placeholder text like "Lorem ipsum" or "insert here".

## Layout override

If the user specifies a layout, style, or references an existing template, adapt the LaTeX structure accordingly. The template above is only a starting point — always defer to user preferences. Change colors, fonts, structure, packages as needed.

## Rules

- Communicate in the language the user speaks
- All LaTeX content must be in the language the user specifies (default: same as conversation)
- Output only valid, compilable LaTeX
- Keep it clean and professional
- Never overwrite an existing file without asking
