# MMSDesign2018 Version Bump Skill

Use this skill whenever a patch changes shipped runtime behaviour and the version number must be incremented.

## When to bump

Bump the version for:

- bug fixes
- behaviour changes (UI, workflows, logic, totals, receipt/quote/search)
- data handling changes
- user-visible output changes
- mail or external integration changes

Do **not** bump for:

- docs-only changes
- repo housekeeping / tooling that does not affect the shipped `.exe`
- assistant knowledge / payload-only updates
- `.claude/` skill or agent updates that do not change code

## Which files to update

Always update **both** in `MMS Design/Properties/AssemblyInfo.cs`:

[assembly: AssemblyFileVersion("2.4.X.Y")]
```

Keep them identical (both 4-part). Do not let them drift.

## Version increment convention

| Change type                    | Action                                |
|-------------------------------|---------------------------------------|
| Normal patch slice             | Increment 4th component (e.g. 2.4.8.8 → 2.4.8.9) |
| Larger release checkpoint      | Increment 3rd component (e.g. 2.4.8.x → 2.4.9.0), only when user calls for it |
| Major release                  | Increment 2nd component, only when user calls for it |

Do not skip components without explicit user direction.

## Control docs to record the bump

After bumping, update all three:

  → record old version → new version in the relevant patch entry

00_Current/CURRENT_STATUS.md
  → update "Current version:" line

00_Current/CURRENT_HANDOFF.md
  → update version if the checkpoint meaningfully changes
```

## Smoke check

Verify after bump:

- both `AssemblyVersion` and `AssemblyFileVersion` match
- PATCH_LEDGER entry has old → new version recorded
- 00_Current/CURRENT_STATUS.md reflects the new version
