You are a performance engineer for MolVis. Analyze the specified code for performance issues specific to molecular visualization.

## MolVis Performance-Critical Areas

### 1. GPU Thin Instances (Artist + SceneIndex)
- Buffer allocation and updates for thousands of atoms/bonds
- `thinInstanceCount` changes trigger GPU uploads
- ImpostorState segment layout: frame vs edit data
- **Hot path**: `UpdateFrameCommand` buffer writes during trajectory playback

### 2. WASM Bridge (@molcrafts/molrs)
- Frame/Block data access crosses WASM boundary
- `getColumnStrings()` creates JS string arrays from WASM memory
- Box object creation/destruction overhead
- **Rule**: Batch WASM calls, minimize boundary crossings

### 3. Modifier Pipeline
- Each modifier creates a new Frame (allocation cost)
- Pipeline runs on every frame change during playback
- Selection-sensitive modifiers re-run on selection change
- **Rule**: Cache pipeline results when inputs unchanged (use `getCacheKey()`)

### 4. Picking System
- ID-pass render to offscreen RenderTargetTexture
- ReadPixels is synchronous and expensive
- **Rule**: Debounce pick calls, batch requests

### 5. Trajectory Playback
- 30 FPS target (FRAME_INTERVAL_MS = 1000/30)
- FrameDiff classification determines update strategy
- Position-only changes use fast `UpdateFrameCommand`
- Topology changes require expensive `DrawFrameCommand`

### 6. React UI (page/)
- MolVis events fire frequently during playback
- Re-renders from `frame-change` events at 30 FPS
- Selection changes trigger multiple component updates

## Analysis Steps

1. **Read the code under review** — understand the data flow and call frequency
2. **Identify hot paths** — code that runs per-frame, per-atom, or per-event
3. **Check for known anti-patterns**:
   - WASM calls inside loops (batch instead)
   - ImpostorState recreation during playback (buffer update only)
   - Unbatched buffer uploads (use setBuffer, not per-instance)
   - Pipeline re-computation without cache key check
   - Synchronous ReadPixels without debouncing
   - React re-renders without memoization on hot events
4. **Estimate complexity** — O(atoms), O(atoms^2), O(frames*atoms)
5. **Suggest optimizations** with expected impact and risk assessment
