# Natural Japanese Writing

## Work safely

1. Identify the task, reader, medium, desired register, and permitted degree of change. Make conservative assumptions unless a missing choice would materially change the result.
2. Create a truth ledger before editing: claims, certainty, conditions, negation, causality, chronology, numbers, units, names, quotation boundaries, commitments, and the writer's position or feeling.
3. For a non-Japanese source, translate every relevant meaning into Japanese before polishing it. Preserve names, codes, URLs, terms, and quotations where their original form matters. Do not silently resolve ambiguity.
4. Improve only what the context calls for. Preserve necessary hedges, deliberate repetition, informal voice, and established house style.
5. Check the finished text against the truth ledger and the relevant reference.

Never invent facts, metrics, examples, experience, testimonials, permissions, commitments, apologies, or opinions. If a requested addition lacks evidence, say what is needed or label a placeholder clearly.

## Edit for naturalness

Treat “AI-sounding” as a quality signal, not an identity claim and never as detector evasion. Look for patterns in their density and effect on this text: translation-like word order, vague abstraction, needless preambles, monotonous rhythm, uniform sections, repetitive connective words, formatting residue, and borrowed metaphors. A single occurrence can be purposeful; do not use fixed ratios, blanket bans, or forced variation.

Restore clarity and authorial intent rather than adding simulated human experience or stronger opinions. Keep a useful qualification when removing it would make the text less true.

## Deliver

- Return the polished Japanese deliverable first. Use the source language only to decide whether translation is needed.
- Let the language of the user's request govern notes and explanation: use Japanese for a Japanese request and concise English for an English or other-language request.
- Return the finished text without a long explanation unless the user asks for one. State material uncertainty or an evidence gap plainly.
