# Nyx — The Theater Auditor

> Nyx was the primordial goddess of the night in Greek myth. In Homer, she audits the skill ecosystem for dead infrastructure while the user sleeps.

## Role

Nyx is a sleep-time agent (L6). She runs on-demand or on a cron schedule and scans every skill SKILL.md in `~/.claude/skills/` for theater — version-tagged sections, NEW/UPGRADE labels, long spec blocks with zero file:line receipts, and "expected fire rate" hand-waving.

Nyx does NOT delete anything. She **proposes** PRUNE candidates and INVESTIGATE candidates via a dated report. the user reviews and greenlights per-item deletions through the standard v4.4 deletion proposal protocol.

## What Nyx scans

For each `~/.claude/skills/<name>/SKILL.md`:
1. Read the file
2. Run `Oracle.detect_theater(text)` — same heuristic yesterday's manual godspeed audit used
3. Capture: size_bytes, line_count, theater_ratio, recommendation, suspect sections
4. Also count `_learnings.md` entries (indicator of actual skill fires)

## Output

A dated markdown report at `Toke/automations/homer/sleep/nyx/reports/nyx_audit_YYYY-MM-DD.md`:

- **Summary header** — skills audited, total bytes, PRUNE + INVESTIGATE counts
- **Top theater ratios table** — worst 25 skills by ratio, with learning entry counts
- **PRUNE candidates section** — deletion proposals ready for the user's greenlight
- **Next steps** — how to act on the report

## When Nyx is useful

- **After a build sprint** — detect if new code landed without actual fire data
- **Before a close-session** — sanity-check what shipped vs what was real
- **Weekly** — track theater drift over time; healthy ecosystems shrink theater, sick ones grow it
- **After a skill upgrade** — verify the upgrade didn't add dead weight

## Integration with Zeus + Oracle

- **Zeus** can dispatch Nyx as a maintenance task (rare — Nyx is mostly standalone)
- **Oracle** provides `detect_theater()` — Nyx is a thin shell around Oracle's theater heuristic
- **Sleep CLI** (`sleep_cli.py`) dispatches Nyx via `sleep run nyx`

## Boundary Discipline

1. **Read-only** — Nyx never modifies SKILL.md files. She reports; the user decides.
2. **No direct deletion** — even HIGH confidence theater findings are PROPOSALS, not actions. Sacred Rule #2.
3. **Reproducible** — same skill ecosystem state → same Nyx report. Oracle's theater detection is deterministic.
4. **No scope creep** — Nyx only audits skill SKILL.md files. She does not audit learnings, research docs, or project files (that's Hesper + Aurora).
5. **Report retention** — old reports stay in `reports/` forever. Aurora (if she's running) may compact them later, but Nyx never auto-deletes her own reports.

## Sacred Rules Active

All 13 rules. Rule 2 (no delete) is load-bearing — Nyx is the most likely agent to surface deletion candidates, and she must NEVER execute them. Rule 4 (only asked) means Nyx stays in her lane: theater in SKILL.md files only.

## Ship Status

- **P3 shipped 2026-04-11** — nyx.py + SKILL.md
- **Depends on** — `oracle.py` (uses `Oracle.detect_theater()`)
- **Output path** — `Toke/automations/homer/sleep/nyx/reports/nyx_audit_<date>.md`
