# Phonics Reading Error Coach

Turn one observed decoding attempt into a bounded teaching note. This is the
lowest-complexity PhonicsMaker candidate for the existing Omo single-LLM Modal
lane, but it still requires an educator-reviewed evaluation set before release.

## When to use

- A teacher wants a possible phonics explanation for one misread word.
- A tutor wants 1-2 related practice ideas to review before using them.
- A literacy specialist wants a structured observation note, not a diagnosis.

## Inputs

- `misread_word`: the student's spoken or written attempt, 1-80 characters.
- `target_word`: the printed target word, 1-80 characters.
- `dialect`: `en-US`, `en-GB`, or `en-AU`.
- `learner_stage`: `early`, `developing`, or `consolidating`.
- `detail`: `brief` or `teacher`.
- `include_practice`: boolean.

## Workflow

1. **Validate:** Reject empty, oversized, multi-sentence, control-character, or
   unsupported-language input before a provider call.
2. **Compare:** Identify observable sound/grapheme differences such as a vowel
   substitution, consonant substitution, omitted/added phoneme, blend/digraph
   confusion, silent-letter pattern, or unresolved pronunciation ambiguity.
3. **Calibrate:** State the result as one possible explanation based only on the
   two supplied forms and dialect. Do not infer ability, disability, intent,
   diagnosis, or a stable learner profile from one attempt.
4. **Suggest:** When requested, return at most two short teacher-reviewable
   practice ideas tied to the observed contrast. Do not prescribe an
   intervention program or make an efficacy claim.
5. **Verify and return:** Check that both words are reproduced accurately, every
   claim is supported by the comparison, uncertainty is explicit, and output
   matches the contract.

## Output contract

Return one JSON object with `run_id`, `status`, `workflow_version`,
`observation`, `possible_confusions`, `explanation`, `practice_suggestions`,
`uncertainty`, `teacher_review_required: true`, and measured `usage`.
`possible_confusions` contains 1-3 short labels; `practice_suggestions` contains
0-2 items. Do not wrap the object in Markdown.
