description: "Saint Vincent and the Grenadines VAT reference checked for 2026. Covers the current administrative rates, registration scope, accommodation rate and monthly return and payment deadline. Includes tax-exclusive and tax-inclusive computations and a framework for reviewing sales classifications. Uses the current Inland Revenue tax page while distinguishing it from the older published VAT Act, whose amendment chain remains incomplete. Use after the supply’s taxable status and value are established. Does not assume all small hotels or public entertainment promoters are outside registration, or that exemption equals zero rating. Independent accountant review and further statutory verification remain outstanding."

# Saint Vincent and the Grenadines VAT

## Scope and registration

Source-cited draft checked 22 October 2026. The [current Inland Revenue guidance](https://ird.gov.vc/index.php/taxes) states a general annual-sales registration figure of EC$300,000 and separately lists all public-entertainment promoters and hoteliers, including guest houses and apartments. Do not apply a small-business turnover exemption to those separately listed categories without checking their statutory position.

The guidance's wording does not precisely settle the exact EC$300,000 boundary, forecast test, aggregation or application deadline. Those points require the current Act and amendments before a registration determination. This Guide supplies no invented equality rule.

## Rates and examples

IRD lists 16% standard VAT, 11% for accommodation rooms, zero rating and exemption. [IRD VAT section](https://ird.gov.vc/index.php/taxes). Classify the transaction before selecting a rate. The room rate is not a blanket classification of every hotel invoice line.

Assume the following bases are established and no special adjustment applies:

| Tax-exclusive charge | VAT | Total |
|---|---:|---:|
| EC$1,000 standard-rated | 160 | 1,160 |
| EC$1,000 qualifying accommodation room | 110 | 1,110 |
| EC$2,500 standard-rated | 400 | 2,900 |

For an EC$1,160 price inclusive only of standard VAT, divide by 1.16 to recover the EC$1,000 base and EC$160 tax. For a room price of EC$1,110 inclusive only of 11% VAT, divide by 1.11. Applying the percentage to the tax-inclusive price would overstate the embedded tax.

These examples calculate output VAT only. They do not decide input-credit eligibility, treatment of service charges, package allocations, deposits, imported services or refunds. Keep zero-rated and exempt supplies separately identified; this batch does not certify their respective input-tax consequences.

## Filing

IRD states returns and payment are due by the fifteenth of the following month. [IRD VAT section](https://ird.gov.vc/index.php/taxes). For example, a June tax period points to 15 July. Any holiday rule or special direction needs separate verification.

Suggested monthly controls: reconcile sales by rate to invoices, identify credits and adjustments separately, match the tax calculation to the return, and retain filing/payment confirmation. Investigate unexplained differences instead of forcing the ledger to match a filed return.

## Source status and remaining work

The [official VAT Act PDF](https://ird.gov.vc/images/pdf/VAT_Act_Cap_445.pdf) was downloaded, but its opening pages show the 2009 revised issue and only early amendments. It is not a current consolidated rate authority. The rate and filing statements above rely on current IRD administrative guidance, pending reconciliation of later legislation. The exact threshold tests, input credits, exemptions, import rules, records, penalties and other operational provisions need further statutory work. Independent accountant review is pending; this is not comprehensive VAT coverage.
