An MCP server (Model Context Protocol server) is the standard way to give Claude Code access to external tools, data sources, and APIs without baking the connection logic into a prompt. MCP was open-sourced by Anthropic in late 2024 and has become the dominant integration substrate for Claude Code agents — thousands of public servers now exist for GitHub, Slack, Postgres, Filesystem, Notion, Linear, browser automation, and almost every SaaS API.
ClaudSkills indexes the skills layer on top of that ecosystem: SKILL.md files that wrap MCP servers into invokable, named workflows for Claude Code.
