quant-analyst owns the statistics of whether you should believe a number (validation scheme, multiple-testing, intervals). This skill owns the engineering of the number itself: the simulation loop, the clock, the cost model, the data store. A backtest claims had you run this strategy, this is what would have happened. Most backtests violate that claim in code, not in math — they let the strategy see prices it could not have seen, fill at prices it could not have got, or trade size the market could not have absorbed.
