Canonical Associations

Category: Engineering  ·  Sub-category: databases  ·  Last updated:
cloud:supabase
The repeatable recipe for canonicalizing entity-to-entity relationships onto the ONE association system (platform.associations) and for canonicalizing Supabase table references post-2026-reorg. Use whenever a task touches a bespoke M2M junction table, an associate_*/get_*_associations/attach_*/tag_* RPC, FK-tag duplication (project_id/task_id columns used as "tagging"), a "list/attach/count things related to X" UI, or a bare .from("<moved-table>") that should be schema-qualified. Triggers on "associate", "attach", "link", "tag", "related to", "M2M", "junction table", "resources for this org/scope/project", "PGRST205 / 42703 table-not-found", or "canonicalize table ref". Holds the load-bearing boundary (associations vs iam.permissions/iam.memberships), the three recipes (replace-an-M2M, put-a-card-on-a-container, canonicalize-a-table-ref), the entity-token + registry rules, and the campaign backlog.

From the source SKILL.md

There is ONE way to relate two entities (content↔content, content↔container) in this app: an edge in platform.associations, written ONLY through associationsService (features/scopes/service/associationsService.ts), which is the sole caller of the assoc_ RPCs. Every bespoke M2M junction table, associate_/get_*_associations RPC, and FK-tag column used as a relationship is debt to migrate onto this edge. This skill is the exact recipe a subagent follows, one file at a time.

What this skill does

Canonical Associations is a community-contributed Claude Code skill in the databases sub-category. It ships as a SKILL.md file that Claude Code auto-discovers under ~/.claude/skills/canonical-associations/ and loads when your prompt matches the skill's trigger.

When to invoke it: Use whenever a task touches a bespoke M2M junction table, an associate_*/get_*_associations/attach_*/tag_* RPC, FK-tag duplication (project_id/task_id columns used as "tagging"), a "list/attach/count things related to X" UI, or a bare .from("<moved-table>") that should be schema-qualified.

Who uses this skill

The Canonical Associations Claude Code skill is built for software engineers, backend developers, full-stack teams, and technical leads building and maintaining production systems. It's part of ClaudSkills (also referred to as Claude Skills or Claude Code Skills) — the open community-curated registry of 186,000+ SKILL.md files for Anthropic's Claude Code agent and the wider Claude ecosystem (Claude API, Claude Agent SDK).

Frequently asked questions

How do I install the Canonical Associations Claude Code skill?
Install via the ClaudSkills desktop app (one click) or copy SKILL.md from the source repository to ~/.claude/skills/canonical-associations/SKILL.md and restart Claude Code. Both flows are detailed at claudskills.com/install/.
What does the Canonical Associations skill do?
The repeatable recipe for canonicalizing entity-to-entity relationships onto the ONE association system (platform.associations) and for canonicalizing Supabase table references post-2026-reorg. Use whenever a task touches a bespoke M2M junction table, an associate_*/get_*_associations/attach_*/tag_* RPC, FK-tag duplication (project_id/task_id columns used as "tagging"), a "list/attach/count things related to X" UI, or a bare .from("<moved-table>") that should be schema-qualified. Is this skill free to install?
Yes. ClaudSkills is an open registry — every skill keeps its source repository's license, and manual install via copy is free. ClaudSkills Pro ($9/mo, $79/yr, or $149 one-time) adds one-click install via the desktop app and a multi-signal Quality Score.
When should I use the Canonical Associations skill?
Use Canonical Associations when your Claude Code task falls under the Engineering category — specifically in the databases area. Claude Code auto-discovers installed skills and invokes the right one based on the task description, so you can also ask Claude directly (e.g. "use Canonical Associations" or describe the task and let Claude pick). Browse related skills at /category/engineering/.
What is a Claude Code skill and how does the Canonical Associations skill fit in?
A Claude Code skill is a SKILL.md file that lives under ~/.claude/skills/<name>/ and tells the Claude Code CLI agent how to perform a specific task (instructions, prompts, allowed tools). Skills are auto-discovered at session start. Canonical Associations is one of 67,000+ skills indexed in the open ClaudSkills catalog, classified under the Engineering category.
