Point of view decides whose consciousness the reader inhabits. Interiority decides how deeply they inhabit it and what that habitation feels like. A story can be in perfect close third person and still feel emotionally dead if the interiority is wrong — if the character's thoughts are summarized rather than rendered, if feelings are named rather than enacted, if the narrative voice tells us what the character experiences instead of putting us inside the experience itself.
