Depth cameras are the most commonly misused sensor in robotics. The depth image looks dense and trustworthy, but every pixel carries a noise model, a validity envelope, and a set of systematic biases that depend on the underlying technology. Code that treats depth as ground truth fails on real hardware — usually at the worst time (sunlight, black objects, close range). This skill gives you the technology tradeoffs, the exact math for projection and alignment, working code patterns, and the failure-mode catalog.
