The new usability frontier (and the new failure mode): interfaces where an AI generates, decides, or acts for the user. The old heuristics still hold — but user control and freedom (heuristic #3) and visibility of system status (heuristic #1) become make-or-break, because the system is now doing things the user didn't directly trigger. Users in 2026 demand to know why an AI did something and to be able to stop or undo it. An opaque, irreversible AI action is the design failure of the era.

What this skill does

Design The AI Interaction is a community-contributed Claude Code skill in the design-creative sub-category. It ships as a SKILL.md file that Claude Code auto-discovers under ~/.claude/skills/design-the-ai-interaction/ and loads when your prompt matches the skill's trigger.

When to invoke it: Use when designing any interface where AI acts, generates, or decides on the user's behalf (agents, generative UI, AI suggestions, automation). Design for trust and control — show status, make actions reversible, set expectations, and let users see and override the why.

Who uses this skill

The Design The AI Interaction Claude Code skill is built for Claude Code users and developers across all disciplines looking for general-purpose AI assistance. It's part of ClaudSkills (also referred to as Claude Skills or Claude Code Skills) — the open community-curated registry of 146,000+ SKILL.md files for Anthropic's Claude Code agent and the wider Claude ecosystem (Claude API, Claude Agent SDK).
