Python and Scala both ship rich collection libraries, but they start from opposite defaults: Python collections are mutable and dynamically typed, whereas Scala collections are immutable by default and statically typed. Because of that, a good translation is never a token-for-token swap. It means picking the Scala construct whose semantics match the original Python intent, and then writing the static types down so the compiler can reject mistakes that Python would only reveal at runtime.
