Research The User

Category: Science & Research  ·  Sub-category: research-methods  ·  Last updated:
Use before or while designing when you need to understand users — their goals, context, mental models, and real behavior. Run discovery the right way (observe and ask about their life, not your idea) and pick the method that fits the question.

From the source SKILL.md

Design without research is design for yourself. The discipline is to learn what users actually do, think, and need — and to pick the right method for the question (NN/g's method-by-question map): generative research to discover the problem and the user, evaluative research to test a design.

What this skill does

Research The User is a community-contributed Claude Code skill in the research-methods sub-category. It ships as a SKILL.md file that Claude Code auto-discovers under ~/.claude/skills/research-the-user/ and loads when your prompt matches the skill's trigger.

Who uses this skill

The Research The User Claude Code skill is built for researchers, data scientists, academics, and analysts working with complex data and scientific literature. It's part of ClaudSkills (also referred to as Claude Skills or Claude Code Skills) — the open community-curated registry of 117,000+ SKILL.md files for Anthropic's Claude Code agent and the wider Claude ecosystem (Claude API, Claude Agent SDK).
