The dominant failure mode in this repo is fake-vs-real-system parity drift: the bufconn fake stores or transforms a value differently from how the real Redpanda Cloud backend does, CI stays green, and the bug surfaces only when a user hits the path. Both early bug-hunt reports (role_assignment bare-principal, topic mergeWithPlannedConfig) trace to this same root cause. This skill is calibrated for that class.
