An exception to a security control is meant to be temporary: granted by someone with the authority, for a stated reason, with something else covering the gap, until a date. Registers drift: the date passes, the approver field is blank, "compensating control: none" goes unchallenged, and the same exception is renewed for the fourth time. This skill lints the register you already keep and turns what it finds into a review agenda, leaving every decision to the people in the review.
Risk Exception Register is a community-contributed Claude Code skill in the security-misc sub-category. It ships as a SKILL.md file that Claude Code auto-discovers under ~/.claude/skills/risk-exception-register/ and loads when your prompt matches the skill's trigger.
When to invoke it: Use when asked to \"prepare the quarterly exception review\" or to check the register before an audit. Not for deciding whether a risk is acceptable, scoring risk, or Vanta and other GRC tool integration.
The Risk Exception Register Claude Code skill is built for security engineers, penetration testers, DevSecOps practitioners, and development teams hardening codebases and infrastructure. It's part of ClaudSkills (also referred to as Claude Skills or Claude Code Skills) — the open community-curated registry of 211,000+ SKILL.md files for Anthropic's Claude Code agent and the wider Claude ecosystem (Claude API, Claude Agent SDK).
