Stability Score

Category: Engineering  ·  Sub-category: code-quality  ·  Last updated:
One repeatable pass that keeps fak trustworthy while it iterates fast — the question no other scorecard asks: as we add items quickly, how do we KNOW a regression / tail-wag / confusion landed, and how do we REVERT to a stable version? Runs the stability scorecard (tools/stability_scorecard.py) over the git-tracked tree across four groups — sentinel (a regression turns a gate RED), invariant (the core assumptions are encoded as tests), revert (we can roll back: keep/revert ladder, version pin, CI-gated tags, a documented rollback runbook), and drift (a small thing wagging a big thing gets caught) — turns each HARD defect into a required affordance to ADD (wire the missing CI regression gate, encode the missing invariant test, commit the missing ratchet baseline, write/link the rollback runbook), retires stability-debt worst-first, re-measures + regenerates the snapshot to PROVE the debt dropped, and commits only the scorecard lane by explicit path. The stability counterpart of code-quality (defects) and rsi-maturity (the self-improver's structure). Use after a change to a CI gate, an invariant test, a baseline, the release/rollback path, or on a /loop cadence to keep the trunk safe to move fast on.

From the source SKILL.md

It is an instance of the generic [scorecard](../scorecard/SKILL.md) doctrine pointed at one surface: stability under fast iteration. The tool (tools/stability_scorecard.py) reads the git-tracked tree, scores thirteen KPIs in four groups, and folds them into one stability_debt integer plus an A–F grade and the control-pane envelope. It folds into tools/scorecard_control_pane.py alongside the rest of the family.

What this skill does

Stability Score is a community-contributed Claude Code skill in the code-quality sub-category. It ships as a SKILL.md file that Claude Code auto-discovers under ~/.claude/skills/stability-score/ and loads when your prompt matches the skill's trigger.

Who uses this skill

The Stability Score Claude Code skill is built for software engineers, backend developers, full-stack teams, and technical leads building and maintaining production systems. It's part of ClaudSkills (also referred to as Claude Skills or Claude Code Skills) — the open community-curated registry of 158,000+ SKILL.md files for Anthropic's Claude Code agent and the wider Claude ecosystem (Claude API, Claude Agent SDK).

How to install

Free

Manual install (2 steps)

mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills/stability-score
curl -L https://claudskills.com/skills/stability-score/SKILL.md \
  -o ~/.claude/skills/stability-score/SKILL.md

Or just download SKILL.md directly and drop it into ~/.claude/skills/stability-score/. Claude Code auto-discovers it on next session.

Skills live at ~/.claude/skills/stability-score/SKILL.md on macOS/Linux, or %USERPROFILE%\.claude\skills\stability-score\SKILL.md on Windows. See the full install guide for step-by-step instructions.

Frequently asked questions

How do I install the Stability Score Claude Code skill?
Install via the ClaudSkills desktop app (one click) or copy SKILL.md from the source repository to ~/.claude/skills/stability-score/SKILL.md and restart Claude Code. Both flows are detailed at claudskills.com/install/.
What does the Stability Score skill do?
Use after a change to a CI gate, an invariant test, a baseline, the release/rollback path, or on a /loop cadence to keep the trunk safe to move fast on.
Is this skill free to install?
Yes. ClaudSkills is an open registry — every skill keeps its source repository's license, and manual install via copy is free. ClaudSkills Pro ($9/mo, $79/yr, or $149 one-time) adds one-click install via the desktop app and a multi-signal Quality Score.
When should I use the Stability Score skill?
Use Stability Score when your Claude Code task falls under the Engineering category — specifically in the code quality area. Claude Code auto-discovers installed skills and invokes the right one based on the task description, so you can also ask Claude directly (e.g. "use Stability Score" or describe the task and let Claude pick). Browse related skills at /category/engineering/.
What is a Claude Code skill and how does the Stability Score skill fit in?
A Claude Code skill is a SKILL.md file that lives under ~/.claude/skills/<name>/ and tells the Claude Code CLI agent how to perform a specific task (instructions, prompts, allowed tools). Skills are auto-discovered at session start. Stability Score is one of 67,000+ skills indexed in the open ClaudSkills catalog, classified under the Engineering category.
