Synthetic Control

Category: Sales  ·  Sub-category: prospecting  ·  Last updated:
type:debug
Design, estimate, validate, and write up a synthetic control analysis, including synthetic difference-in-differences, augmented/penalized variants, and factor-model/matrix-completion relatives for panel counterfactuals. Produces advice with citations, R estimation and diagnostics code, and a drafted methods paragraph. TRIGGER on "synthetic control", "synthetic DiD", "SDID", "donor pool", "comparative case study", "weighted counterfactual", "geo holdout", "CausalImpact", "matrix completion", "interactive fixed effects", "gsynth", "generalized synthetic control", or any setting where one or a few aggregate units (a state, market, DMA, category, platform region) got treated and untreated units must form the counterfactual. Staggered-adoption panels with many treated units belong to did; design triage across methods belongs to causal-design. Prospective geo experiments (choosing treatment markets by design) belong to field-experiment.

From the source SKILL.md

An opinionated synthetic-control workflow grounded in a read canon (references/canon.md, current as of 2026-07-28): Abadie's JEL survey, the practice manual by the method's originator, with the synthetic-DiD bridge and the DiD-vs-SC boundary supplied by the Arkhangelsky-Imbens panel survey (shared with the did skill). The deliverable is the feasibility verdict with the citation that justifies it, the estimation and diagnostics code in R, and a methods paragraph with the limitation stated in first person at the point of the choice.
