A VS Code extension is JavaScript that runs inside the editor's extension host and calls the vscode API, mostly asynchronously; its package.json declares what it contributes. A rhun extension is a native program that rhun starts and talks to over a line protocol, with an extension.ini manifest; there is no JavaScript, no web view and no in-process API.
