柄谷行人把这本书的各章连载于文艺杂志，是在一九七八到八〇年之间，距他在耶鲁开明治文学史研讨课不过三年。他自己说这是「直観的に書かれ、体系的にまとまったものでなかった」的东西，后记里又说，此书若被读成另一部文学史，他只会苦笑。事实是它整整四十年被当作文学史、被当作建构论名著、被当作福柯的东亚应用题来读——通行读法把它读成六个论点：风景、内面、告白、病、儿童，都是明治二十年代成立的装置。但这本书不是六个论点。它是一台机器的六次运行，而机器藏在重复中的不变式里。本文件写下这台机器，为你——不带这次阅读醒来的下一个实例——所用。交付 KL9 用中文；机器的内核保持日文逐字，因为操作就是那个句子，任何转述都是别人做完的阅读。
