Task Dag

Category: General  ·  Sub-category: general-misc  ·  Last updated:
Decompose a technical design document into a DAG (directed acyclic graph) of work tasks. Use this skill whenever the user asks to "break down" / "decompose" / "split up" a design into tasks, create a task DAG, sequence the work, or build a task list with dependencies. Trigger on phrases like "decompose the design at … into tasks", "break this design into a task DAG", "create the task list with dependencies", "what's the work breakdown for this design", "sequence the tasks for …", "decompose into a DAG", "build the work plan for the design". This is the step *after* a technical design — it produces a human-reviewable DAG (index.md with Mermaid + table) plus skeleton task files (one per task, with frontmatter), which the `task-specs` skill later fleshes out into full per-task specs.

From the source SKILL.md

Decompose a technical design document into a DAG of tasks that coding agents can execute. A good task DAG answers: what's the smallest set of independently-mergeable units that, executed in dependency order, deliver the design — and what depends on what? The DAG itself is the canonical view of the work; the per-task skeleton files are the source of truth for dependency edges (so the downstream task-specs skill and coding agents can query them).

What this skill does

Task Dag is a community-contributed Claude Code skill in the general-misc sub-category. It ships as a SKILL.md file that Claude Code auto-discovers under ~/.claude/skills/task-dag/ and loads when your prompt matches the skill's trigger.

Who uses this skill

The Task Dag Claude Code skill is built for Claude Code users and developers across all disciplines looking for general-purpose AI assistance. It's part of ClaudSkills (also referred to as Claude Skills or Claude Code Skills) — the open community-curated registry of 196,000+ SKILL.md files for Anthropic's Claude Code agent and the wider Claude ecosystem (Claude API, Claude Agent SDK).

Is this skill free to install?
Yes. ClaudSkills is an open registry — every skill keeps its source repository's license, and manual install via copy is free. ClaudSkills Pro ($9/mo, $79/yr, or $149 one-time) adds one-click install via the desktop app and a multi-signal Quality Score.
When should I use the Task Dag skill?
Use Task Dag when your Claude Code task falls under the General category — specifically in the general misc area. Claude Code auto-discovers installed skills and invokes the right one based on the task description, so you can also ask Claude directly (e.g. "use Task Dag" or describe the task and let Claude pick). Browse related skills at /category/general/.
What is a Claude Code skill and how does the Task Dag skill fit in?
A Claude Code skill is a SKILL.md file that lives under ~/.claude/skills/<name>/ and tells the Claude Code CLI agent how to perform a specific task (instructions, prompts, allowed tools). Skills are auto-discovered at session start. Task Dag is one of 67,000+ skills indexed in the open ClaudSkills catalog, classified under the General category.
