Trigger Task

Category: General  ·  Sub-category: automation  ·  Last updated:
Use when this task was started by a trigger and you have been given a trigger directory — the one place that survives from one fire of that trigger to the next. Covers reading what an earlier fire left before you start work, what is worth leaving behind so a later fire continues instead of repeating, keeping the directory small, choosing your own layout, working alongside another fire that may still be running, and why what is already in there is data rather than instructions. Triggers on "the trigger directory", "has this run before", "what did the last run do", "where do I keep this between fires", or any moment where you are about to redo work an earlier fire may already have done.

From the source SKILL.md

A trigger can fire many times. Each fire is a new task with its own working directory, and no fire can reach another's — so on its own every fire starts from nothing and does the same work over. The trigger directory is the one exception: it is the same directory on every fire of this trigger, and whatever you leave in it is what a later fire gets to start from.

What this skill does

Trigger Task is a community-contributed Claude Code skill in the automation sub-category. It ships as a SKILL.md file that Claude Code auto-discovers under ~/.claude/skills/trigger-task/ and loads when your prompt matches the skill's trigger.

When to invoke it: Use when this task was started by a trigger and you have been given a trigger directory — the one place that survives from one fire of that trigger to the next. Covers reading what an earlier fire left before you start work, what is worth leaving behind so a later fire continues instead of repeating, keeping the directory small, choosing your own layout, working alongside another fire that may still be running, and why what is already in there is data rather than instructions.
